    COSMIC ZOO

OMNI is pleased to present Christina Allan’s new exhibition, COSMIC ZOO. Allan received her BFA in Painting from Parsons School of Design in 2017 and she was awarded the Dean’s BFA Scholarship. Her widely recognisable paintings can be found in private collections throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe.

  • COSMIC ZOO is a new series of otherworldly paintings by artist Christina Allan, her largest paintings to-date. Cross-referencing 3D renderings with painted scenes, the exhibition features shiny renders of god-like beings and digital conceptualisations brought to life on canvas.

COSMIC ZOO taps into Allan’s personal interest in the mysteries of the universe, cosmology and the unknown. She drew inspiration from her own spirituality, theories and hypotheses of the universe (the Simulation Hypothesis; the Zoo Hypothesis), ufology and popular culture.

Bringing a spiritual dimension to her artistic practice and philosophy, Allan taps into humankind's collective and innate curiosity surrounding things that terrify and intrigue us. In COSMIC ZOO, skeletal alien beings are conveyed with both monstrosity and beauty, drawing from the concept of the sublime – a humbling experience which invokes a sense of horror and smallness when facing something of grandeur.

  • Allan utilized 3D software to create the subjects and Photoshop to create a final atmosphere and composition. Painted completely with an airbrush, the subjects are reminiscent of video game and digital art aesthetics as seen through psychedelic backgrounds and abstracted atmospheres. Pulling from contemporary culture and fashion, they flaunt flashy jewellery and chains, exhibiting their status, power, and ego.
